Toyota Safety Sense

Toyota has always tried to be on the leading edge of safety technologies in its vehicles. Toyota has developed Toyota Safety Sense, which is a suite of safety Technologies designed to get you to your destination as safe as possible. There are 4 packages available for Toyota Safety Sense:

  • TSS-C
  • TSS-P
  • TSS 2.0
  • TSS 2.5+

Pre-Collision System

The Pre-Collision System is all about preventative protection, as it utilizes a camera and laser to detect vehicles ahead. When the possibility of a collision is detected, this system prompts the driver with audio and visual cues. If the driver notices the given alerts and then proceeds to brake, the system is able to provide additional braking force using Brake Assist. In the case that a driver does not respond to the alerts, and if the system determines there is a possibility of a frontal collision, the system can automatically apply the brakes and reduce speed by up to 30 km/hour to help them reduce the severity of the impact, and in some instances, avoid the collision.

Enhancements:

TSS-P - PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM WITH PEDESTRIAN DETECTION

TSS 2.0 - PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM WITH DAYTIME/LOW-LIGHT VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIAN DETECTION, PLUS DAYTIME BICYCLE DETECTION

TSS 2.5+ - PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM WITH PEDESTRIAN (DAYTIME & LOW-LIGHT) & DAYTIME BICYCLE DETECTION, INTERSECTION SUPPORT & EMERGENCY STEERING ASSIST

Lane Departure Alert

The Lane Departure Alert System utilizes a camera to detect the visible white and yellow lane markings in front of the vehicle as well as the vehicle's position within these lines. If the system detects the vehicle is making an unintentional departure from its lane, it alerts the driver with an audio and visual cue. When notified of this drift, the driver must check the surrounding road situation and cautiously operate the steering wheel to drive back into the intended part of the lane.

Enhancements:

TSS-P - LANE DEPARTURE ALERT WITH STEERING ASSIST

TSS 2.0 - LANE DEPARTURE ALERT WITH STEERING ASSIST AND ROAD EDGE DETECTION

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Comparable to conventional cruise control features, this system can help vehicle travel at a preset speed and preset vehicle-to-vehicle distance. To detect the preferred speed and distance, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses a forward-facing camera with a millimeter-wave radar that monitors the vehicle ahead and offers smooth acceleration and deceleration.

Enhancements:

TSS 2.0 - FULL SPEED RANGE DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL

TSS 2.5+ - FULL SPEED DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL WITH CURVE SPEED MANAGEMENT

Lane Tracing Assist

Available in Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 and 2.5+, Lane Tracing Assist works with your vehicle's Dynamic Radar Cruise Control to keep the vehicle centred in your marked lane while driving.

Lane Tracing Assist with Enhanced Line and Road recognition is available on vehicles equipped with TSS 2.5+, in which lane recognition has been significantly improved.

Automatic High Beam

Available in all TSS packages, Automatic High Beams are able to provide drivers with enhanced lighting without limiting the visibility of other drivers on the road. It accomplishes this through the use of an in-vehicle camera that can detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and the taillights of those vehicles ahead. The system detects when other vehicles are within close proximity and will automatically switch between high and low beams to provide adequate lighting.
